Family Mushroom Foraging Event
30 families joined SLR for a seasonal mushroom foraging event filled with exploration, discovery, and hands-on learning.
About this event
Families walked through the forest together while learning how to observe mushrooms, identify their different characteristics, and understand the important role fungi play in forest ecosystems.
Children eagerly searched beneath leaves, around tree roots, and along forest trails for mushrooms in a wide variety of shapes, colors, sizes, and textures. The experience encouraged participants to slow down, look carefully, ask questions, and notice details that might otherwise be missed.
Parents and children learned side by side, making the activity both educational and engaging. Beyond mushroom discovery, families were introduced to broader concepts such as biodiversity, decomposition, soil health, and ecological connections. The event helped children develop observation skills, curiosity, and a deeper appreciation for the complexity and beauty of the natural world.
